Lopez Solid Waste Levy Passes by over 82%
Nov 22, 2023
By Solid Waste Alternative Program (SWAP)
Thank You Lopez!
In this week of Thanksgiving, we'd like to express our gratitude to the Lopez Island voters for approving the Lopez Solid Waste Disposal District tax levy. The Levy passed with over 82% yes voting!!
Thank you for demonstrating our community's commitment to environmentally responsible waste disposal.
The Levy passing allows our Lopez Solid Waste Disposal District team to continue providing:
- Low garbage disposal rates
- TIOLI (Take It Or Leave It) where usable goods are offered free to the community
.
- Free separated recycling, which increases recycling rates (vs. commingled recyclables)
- Free metal recycling (grills, lawnmowers, etc.)
We also want to thank the community volunteers who donated over 2100 hours supporting our reuse, recycling and solid waste disposal efforts. These volunteers sort and arrange TIOLI goods to help our reuse ethics, breakdown metal objects to enable metal recycling, and guide separated recycling to ensure the highest values for these goods. The Lopez Dump couldn't do all this without our volunteers!
