EATING LOCALLY AND SEASONALLY: COOKING AND FOOD PRESERVATION DEMONSTRATION

Saturday, May 11, 2024, 2-4 pm
Culinary Room, Lopez Island High School

Presenters: Elizabeth Simpson and Henning Sehmsdorf

In this third of the series about eating locally and seasonally, we will focus on CORN and other GRAINS easily grown on our island. We will
discuss the nutritional properties of grains, especially when organically and locally grown, and how to prepare and process them.

Since we are in the shoulder season, we will
make a seasonal flint corn dish, Corn Bread,
and discuss various whole grain breads we
make at home, and how we deal with gluten.

This event is Free of Charge, (donations
welcome) and limited to sixteen adult
participants.

There will be an opportunity to purchase Eating Locally and Seasonally, A Community Food Book for Lopez Island (And All Those Who Want to Eat Well, 2021, $25), proceeds to go to Transition Lopez Island to fund its projects toward mitigating climate change.

Assisted by Taproot, sponsored by Lopez Locavores, Lopez Island School District, the Family Resource Center, and the Lopez Thrift
Store.
