KLOI- Gary Alexander Classic Jazz
Apr 26, 2024
3:00 - 6:00pm
KLOI-LP 102.9 FM
This Week: Today marks the 16th anniversary of this program’s debut on KLOI, so the first hour will replicate the highlights of that first edition of Joy Spring on Friday, April 25, 2008. In the second hour, we’ll bring to a close our month-long tribute to two composers born a century ago, first with four albums by Milton “Shorty” Rogers (born April 14, 1924), recorded from December 1957 (the soundtrack of “St. Louis Blues”) through 1958 (“Chances Are”), 1959 (“Music from Wizard of Oz”) and 1960 (“The Swinging Nutcracker”). In the early 1960s, Shorty surrendered to the dominance of rock’n’roll by retreating to studio work and film scoring. We’ll then conclude our month-long tribute to the compositions of Henry Mancini with his film scores dating from 1966-67 (“Moment to Moment,” and “Two for the Road”) to 1982-83 (“Victor/Victoria” and “Thorn Birds”). Both composers died in 1994, age 70. The final half hour will feature the next album in our “E” box of records, a 2-LP set of the Bill Evans trio from 1963, “Time Remembered.”
