KLOI- Gary Alexander - Classic JazzJoy Spring w/Gary Alexander This Week: The first hour contains three segments: Four Spring songs with the month of May in the title, then six songs penned by Sheldon Harnick, born a century ago last week (April 30, 1924), and living to age 99 (dying last June), and finally some country songs played by UW “vibes professor” Tom Collier in his new album, “Boomer Vibes, Volume 2. The second hour features our first of five hours devoted to the five creative decades of America’s premier jazz composer and band-leader Edward “Duke” Ellington, born 125 years ago (April 29, 1899) and dying 50 years ago (May 24, 1974). This 45-minute segment features his first decade of music, 1925-35, followed by two songbirds who wrote “where are my keys?” songs when they turned 60! The final hour features 20 top songs written by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart from 1925 to 1942 in honor of Hart’s birthday (May 2, 1895).
