Just an announcement to the community and anyone who enjoys our incredible public lands here on Lopez Island.
Every summer since 2007, a team of teenagers in the Lopez Island Youth Conservation Corps (LICC) has worked on the maintenance and improvement of public lands, especially the BLM lands on the South-end of Lopez and Land Bank properties scattered around. This is an opportunity for youth to engage in conservation efforts and environmental education, while providing a valuable service to our island community.
If you see signs of trail maintenance and activity, please respect the work being done as well as the hard-working crew of local youth. In my 2 years as LICC Crew Leader, we have had a shovel taken at Iceberg Point in 2014 and recently a tarp taken at Point Colville last month. Just a little public awareness of our activities on these lands can go a long way in helping each other out!
Thank you so much for your care and dedication to our public lands!
